She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and Personality, from University of Missouri, Columbia, in 1970. In describing the work of Edna Foa and her colleagues in anxiety disorders, we demonstrate how emotional processing theory of anxiety-related disorders and their treatment using exposure therapy have generated hypotheses about the psychopathology of posttraumatic stress disorder and obsessive-compulsive anxiety disorder that have informed the development and refinement of specific treatment Edna B. Foa, Ph.D., is professor at the Allegheny University of the Health Services and director of the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety. She has published several books and over 100 articles and book chapters, has lectured extensively around the world, and was chair of the OCD work group and co-chair of the PTSD work group of the DSM-IV.
